<image:title>Important Information - Fees</image:title>
<image:caption>A standard appointment lasts 50 minutes; the fee is 120€ per session. A cancellation fee of 50% may be charged if 24 hours’ notice is not provided. Nicole is a registered provider of psychological services in France (ADELI 699350872). Despite recent changes to national health insurance, sessions with Nicole are not reimbursed by ‘assurance maladie’. It is a good idea to speak to your General Practitioner to fully explore your options. Most private medical insurers provide some level of reimbursement. This level of coverage may have increased in response to the provision of psychological services being recognized by ‘assurance maladie’. Please clarify this with your private health insurer.</image:caption>

<image:title>Important Information - Confidentiality</image:title>
<image:caption>Nicole adheres to the French psychologists code of conduct (9 September 2021; code of conduct). As such, all information disclosed within sessions remains strictly confidential. Your right to confidentiality is protected by law (Code pénal, Article 226-13) although I can be ordered to breech confidentiality by the courts. The specifics of maintaining confidentiality are usually discussed in the initial session. A further note on confidentiality. I regularly engage in supervision with other mental health professionals, which involves discussing issues that arise in my work with clients. Any disclosure of client information is non-identifiable and my peers, as health professionals are equally held accountable to maintain confidentiality. At the request of the client, information can be released to relevant professionals. This is always discussed in advance and the client must sign (or electronically approve) a written release of information document specific to the situation. The specifics of maintaining confidentiality are usually discussed in the initial session.</image:caption>

<image:title>Choosing a psychologist - The decision</image:title>
<image:caption>The decision to see a psychologist quite often comes at moments of crisis. It is not only a difficult decision to make, but it can be hard to know who is the right therapist for you. This online guide provides a clear overview of factors to consider and may help as you begin this important process.</image:caption>

<image:title>Choosing a psychologist - Language & Culture</image:title>
<image:caption>Linguistic and cultural nuance is significant in the therapeutic relationship. If English is not your first language and there is no other compelling reason to see an English-speaking psychologist (e.g., bicultural relationships, expat life experience, no native-speaking therapists of your first language), I strongly recommend that you find an experienced therapist who speaks your language.</image:caption>

<image:title>Choosing a psychologist - Your protection</image:title>
<image:caption>There are excellent therapists who are regulated by organisations other than ADELI and French law. However, it is important to clarify your rights and protections before beginning any therapeutic relationship.</image:caption>

<image:title>Resumé - Context</image:title>
<image:caption>I am an Australian and I have been living in France with my family for more than 15 years. My first language is English, I have a DELF B2 (level required for university study) in French. Since registering as a probationary psychologist in 1997 and achieving full registration in 1999 (Australia), I have worked almost exclusively in private practice. My client base has varied greatly, depending upon the region and the primary referral sources. However, my theoretical approach has remained consistent. My general approach to treatment is client-focussed (humanist); as such the relationship with the client is the critical element in the process of change. Within that, I regularly employ a range of treatment modalities (pluralistic). I am experienced in the use of Cognitive-Behavioural strategies (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR), Insight-based Therapy and Clinical Hypnosis, amongst others. In short, I attempt to create change for the individual, with strategies based upon the problem at hand, the individual strengths of the client and outcome-based research. I have experience working with children, adolescents, adults and couples. I also have experience in designing protocols for group training and interventions My early fascination with psychology was focussed on the role of context. My first thesis, way back in 1997, explored the importance of power dynamics, particularly in terms of the role of ‘expert’. I am very conscious that as the psychologist, I am ‘the expert’ on mental health, but my clients hold the key to context and are the experts on their own history, life experience and choices.</image:caption>
